It is impossible to cover every requirement for marine signage from stock and we constantly produce special signs to cover all aspect of running a vessel in todays world of specialised marine operations.

While 'label' type signs are quite satisfactory for simple instructional duties, such as "Close taps after using dishwasher".  Most applications are better suited to being combined with one of the internationally recognised pictograms as follows:

Safety equipment or direction signs (usually photoluminescent material)   Fire signs (equipment marking only, usually photoluminescent material)

Mandatory (an instruction to do something)   Hazard (text usually starting WARNING, CAUTION or DANGER)

Prohibition (advice on what you must not do)

Please bear in mind the following points when requesting special signs:

A) Do not make the text too big - remember that viewing distance on ships are usually quite small, especially in the accommodation.
B)

Do not try to use too much text - a short concise message has far more impact than any attempt to be polite! For example "It is recommended that     this hatch remains closed throughout the voyage" would be better worded "Keep closed at sea"

C)   Do not use too much text for the available area of sign - although this may seem  waste of space, the impact of a sign is enhanced if there is a reasonable area of the appropriate colour around the text.
D) Try not to use complicated wording - remember, especially in the marine industry the sign may be read by a person whose first language is not that used on the sign.

Our design department will always be pleased to give advice on the design of special signs or submit your request on the "Request a quotation form" which will guide you through the various steps
