Maritime Progress was founded in 1985 and was initially part of a joint venture involving The College of Maritime Studies in Warsash, Southampton. In 1994 the company became part of a group under the holding company, Warnstar Ltd. Warnstar’s experience in the marine industry extends to the supply of inert gas systems for tankers and combustion control instrumentation but is currently centred on multimedia safety and training products. The roots of the present Company were now formed and from a small beginning Maritime Progress has grown year on year. The Companies inception coincided with the early use of sign material in the marine industry. As a consequence Maritime Progress has one of the oldest pools of knowledge in this much specialised field. Within the first few years the Company gained an excellent reputation for knowledge of marine safety legislation that resulted in the introduction of the range of safety awareness and training posters, now numbering over 40 titles, with additional titles being added on a regular basis. As a specialist Company, Maritime Progress manufactures its own photoluminescent materials. This commenced after a great deal of research into phosphorescent pigments, plastics and adhesives. The result of these efforts achieved a substrate with high luminance, minimum shrinkage and excellent adhesion properties that is now purchased by other sign manufactures all over the world for production of their own signs. Within the last few years the company has developed close working relationship with many regulatory authorities that resulted in an invitation to chair the IMO Committee for the revision of SOLAS Chapter II. As part of an expansion program in 1998, Maritime Progress invested in additional staff and facilities to start production of Fire Plans and similar graphics. This service has been extremely well received by the industry and continues to grow.

Continual growth, which now includes offering our own manuals and logbooks, has resulted in the company requiring larger premises. As a consequence, January 2002 saw the relocation to a much larger building in Redhill with ample room for future development. Additional space will allow investment in new machines and technology enabling the company to grow still further. Whilst making major investments to extend its capabilities and product range, the company has never lost sight of its core business of marine signage and it is the continuous attention to detail, quality and service which has put Maritime Progress in the position of market leader in its chosen field.
