There has always been a need onboard ship for engraved signs using material that is not susceptible to corrosion. At one time this requirement was invariably met with engraved brass signs; however the norm these days is to use either a Formica (Trafolyte), based or a PVC (Vynalast), based material.
Technical manager Captain Andy Goldsmith comments, "Previously at Maritime Progress we have endeavoured to provide a satisfactory engraved signs service by outsourcing them from specialist companies. Unfortunately, some of these companies have lacked experience in the marine industry and have been somewhat relaxed regarding delivery deadlines. This situation was obviously unsatisfactory in an environment where supply deadlines are dictated by completion dates, sailing schedules, regulatory inspections etc. Talking to a number of our distributors, we have learned that many requests for quotes (RFQs) to local engraving firms did not get a quick enough response. In many instances, vessels had departed port before a response was received with no chance of getting the job done".
For these reasons, Maritime Progress is happy to announce that we have recently invested in equipment which will enable us to complete these signs "in house", and can offer a rapid response from the quote enquiry through to the completed engraved sign.
These specially selected tools are able to engrave on various materials ranging from brass, stainless steel and the more economical Vynalast, which we both manufacture and stock (together with other plastics), ensuring prompt delivery.
We are committed to providing our customers with a quality based service specifically designed to meet their engraved sign needs. Contact us by email or telephone with your urgent requirements and we will respond quickly. We understand the Marine Industry.
