These new, high quality engraved signs are aesthetically pleasing and versatile, combining the eye catching attributes of standard engraved signs, with the added unique quality of startling luminosity when the ambient light is low or non existent. Photoluminescent signs, by their ability to absorb ambient light and to release it slowly when the light source is removed, can have an extended range of applications. Widely supplied for safety related use, our new manufacturing techniques now enable these signs to have a broader capability than the regulatory environment for which they were originally designed. Although their incredible light emitting qualities are already valued as part of safety way-finding and escape route systems, their unique properties have not yet been fully utilised by interior designers and naval architects for other purposes and so their use has therefore been limited to requirement rather than choice.

Vynalast PVC material

The Vynalast material is a tough rigid PVC product originally designed for technical applications of engraved signage. With its excellent dimensional stability, high tensile strength and good impact toughness, Vynalast PVC is available in a variety of colour combinations with either a polished or satin finish. It is also a thermoplastic material, which can be readily shaped and formed after engraving. The PVC substrate has excellent UV properties and is extremely durable and resistant to salt water, which makes it highly suitable to outdoor and marine applications. (The PL material meets DINB-67510-4, surpassing PSPA Class B.) For Yacht owners and others considering replacement of brass signage, PL Vynalast offers a high end solution at a fraction of the cost.

To sum up, advances in engraving technology now allow for the inclusion of luminous pictorial graphics on engraved signs in addition to the IMO lifesaving symbols. With all engraved signs produced in-house at Maritime Progress, the standard is now set to provide an additional personal service with our usual attention to detail.
